Keun, who was originally named as a non-travelling reserve, will now join the travelling squad after Sanmarie Visser was ruled out of the tournament through injury.
The 2026 Africa Netball Cup will take place from 19 to 26 September at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, bringing together 10 of Africa’s leading women’s netball nations. The tournament will feature South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Kenya, Botswana, Nigeria and Tanzania.
The competition carries added significance this year, with the women’s tournament also serving as the African qualification pathway for the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027. South Africa and Uganda have already secured their places at the World Cup through the World Netball rankings, while the two highest-placed eligible nations in Nairobi will claim Africa’s remaining qualification spots.
The SPAR Proteas head into the tournament as defending champions after claiming the title in 2025. Head coach Jenny van Dyk has also used the tournament as an opportunity to build squad depth, test new combinations and assess players ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup.
Keun’s call-up provides the young player with an opportunity to join the national team on the continental stage, while Visser will now focus on her recovery following her injury.
The SPAR Proteas will assemble in Johannesburg before travelling to Nairobi on 16 September, with their Africa Netball Cup campaign beginning on 19 September.
