Born on 11 January 2001 in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, Nketsa’s journey to the top began almost as soon as she could walk. She started playing netball at the age of one, showing a natural love for the game from an early age.
However, it was her move to Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal, in 2016 that truly transformed her career.
The relocation exposed her to stronger competition and more structured development pathways, allowing her talent to flourish. While playing for Shayamoya Secondary School, her performances quickly caught attention.
It wasn’t long before she was scouted and recruited to Hoërskool Sentraal, one of the country’s leading schools for sporting excellence.
That move to Bloemfontein proved to be a turning point. It elevated her netball to a new level and placed her on the path to national success.
Balancing books and the big stage
While building her reputation as one of the country’s brightest netball prospects, Nketsa never lost sight of her academic ambitions.She is currently an undergraduate student at University of the Free State, pursuing a Bachelor of Social Science degree majoring in Psychology at the Bloemfontein campus.
Balancing elite-level sport with university studies is no easy task, but those close to Nketsa often describe her as disciplined, focused and deeply committed to growth both on and off the court. Her journey reflects the reality of modern female athletes – proving that sporting excellence and academic success can go hand in hand.
Climbing through the national ranks
Nketsa’s rise through South African netball was steady and impressive.
She represented South Africa at multiple age-group levels, first earning selection for the Under-16 and Under-18 national teams, before progressing to the Baby Proteas (Under-21) squad.
She was also part of the Baby Proteas team that competed in the SPAR Challenge Tri-Nations Tournament in Cape Town, further cementing her place as one of South Africa’s brightest future stars.
Her transition into senior netball came naturally.
Two years ago, she broke into the senior national setup and has since become a trusted figure in the SPAR Proteas midcourt.
Known for her ability to dictate tempo, break down attacks and provide stability under pressure, Nketsa has become a crucial player for South Africa.
Dominating with the Free State Crinums
At domestic level, Nketsa has become the heartbeat of the Free State Crinums, where her leadership and consistency have made her one of the most respected players in the Telkom Netball League.
Her exceptional 2025 campaign saw her crowned Best Centre at the 2025 Telkom Netball League, a major recognition of her influence and excellence in one of Africa’s most competitive netball competitions.
It was yet another milestone in a career filled with quiet but powerful achievements.
A leader beyond the court
Despite her growing fame, Nketsa remains grounded.
Teammates describe her as humble, reserved and deeply connected to her family and roots.
