The 24-year-old SPAR Proteas star has become one of South Africa’s most exciting netball talents, earning recognition for her dynamic performances at Goal Attack and Wing Attack. Today, she represents both the national team and London Pulse in the United Kingdom’s highly competitive Netball Super League, but her story is one of determination, adaptation, and an unwavering desire to improve.
Interestingly, netball was not Maseko’s first love. Growing up in Soweto, Johannesburg, she was passionate about football. However, the absence of girls’ football teams at her school led her to explore another sporting avenue. That decision would ultimately change her life.
Her talent quickly became impossible to ignore. In 2020, at just 18 years old, Maseko made her senior debut for the SPAR Proteas, announcing herself as one of the country’s brightest prospects. Since then, she has continued to develop into a key player for South Africa, combining creativity, speed, and sharp decision-making to trouble opposition defences.
A major milestone arrived in August last year when she signed for London Pulse, joining a growing list of South African players taking their careers abroad. The move represented more than just a change of scenery—it became an opportunity to learn, grow, and challenge herself against some of the world’s best.

For Maseko, playing internationally has reinforced the importance of stepping outside familiar environments.
“I think it’s important for players in the national team to get that international experience because it teaches us different coaching styles and we get to experience different training methods,” she explained.
Competing in one of the strongest domestic leagues in the world has exposed her to elite athletes and high-performance environments on a daily basis. According to Maseko, these experiences are helping South African players develop crucial qualities such as adaptability, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure.
While life in England has brought exciting opportunities, it has not been without challenges. One of the biggest adjustments has been adapting to the colder weather, a far cry from the familiar climate of Johannesburg. Yet, true to her character, Maseko has embraced the challenge and continues to focus on becoming more consistent with every performance.
Her determination to improve reflects the values that have shaped her career from the beginning. Few teams embody that journey more than the Gauteng Jaguars, where she spent nearly four years honing her craft.
The Jaguars played a significant role in moulding the player she is today. Maseko recalls arriving at the franchise knowing that nothing would be handed to her.

“Coming into Gauteng Jaguars, I was not a starting player and it was something I had to work for. I knew that it doesn’t come easy, and I think that is one team that taught me what it means to be a resilient character.”
Those lessons have stayed with her throughout her career, from representing South Africa on the international stage to competing in England’s demanding Super League.
Despite her success abroad, Maseko has not forgotten where she came from. The Gauteng Jaguars still hold a special place in her heart, and she openly admits that she hopes to one day return to the franchise and finish her career there.
“The Gauteng Jaguars will always have a special place in my heart, and it’s definitely a team I would go back to, even if it’s to close off my career.”
As South African netball continues to grow and more players secure opportunities overseas, Maseko’s journey stands as a powerful example of what is possible through hard work, resilience, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.
From Soweto to London, her story is still being written—and the next chapter promises to be even more exciting.
