Maseko will lead a refreshed squad selected by head coach Jenny van Dyk, with several senior players rested following the team’s recent participation at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
South Africa enters the tournament as defending champions after winning the women’s title last year, with Van Dyk using the competition as an opportunity to assess new combinations and strengthen the team’s depth ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney.
Netball South Africa President Mami Diale said the tournament provides an important platform for the coach to rotate the squad and give other players valuable international experience.
“The Africa Cup provides our SPAR Proteas head coach with an opportunity to rotate her squad and build depth and capacity within the team. We have full confidence in the coach and the team selected and believe they will perform well and make us proud,” said Diale.
“We enter this tournament as defending champions and intend to retain our title.”
Sanelisiwe Ntobela, Phophi Nematangari and Luca Keun have been named as non-travelling reserves.
The squad will assemble in Johannesburg on 14 September before departing for Nairobi on 16 September.
Van Dyk said the tournament will allow the team to assess new players and combinations while continuing to build towards the next Netball World Cup.
“We have just returned from Glasgow and saw enough with the players that we had. We now have an opportunity to assess new players and see what we can build with them,” said Van Dyk.
“We are going to Kenya as defending champions, and our goal is to retain that title. Building depth is what we are aiming for and it is very important for us.”
