UEFA Women’s Champions League knockout phase draw: teams, format and the road to the final

The stage is set for the business end of the 2025/26 UEFA Women’s Champions League, with the knockout phase draw scheduled for 13:00 CET on Thursday, 18 December.

The draw will determine the bracket from the knockout phase play-offs through to the final, outlining each team’s potential route to European glory.

Following the conclusion of the league phase, the top four teams have secured automatic qualification for the quarter-finals. These are Barcelona, OL Lyonnes, Chelsea and Bayern München, all of whom will enter the next round without needing to contest the play-offs.

Teams that finished fifth to 12th will compete in the knockout phase play-offs, where only four clubs will advance to join the quarter-finalists. The eight teams involved in the play-offs are Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Wolfsburg, Paris FC, Atlético de Madrid and OH Leuven.

From the play-offs onwards, the competition follows a fixed bracket format, meaning potential opponents are pre-determined by league phase finishing positions. Clubs placed fifth and sixth will be drawn against teams that finished 11th or 12th, while those finishing seventh and eighth will face sides placed ninth or tenth. The higher-ranked teams are seeded and will, in principle, play the second leg at home.

All knockout matches, apart from the final, will be played over two legs, home and away. The final will be a single-match showdown in Oslo, where the champions of Europe will be crowned.

The draw will take place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, and will be streamed live on UEFA.com as well as the official UEFA Women’s Champions League app, allowing fans around the world to follow proceedings in real time.

With elite clubs, historic rivalries and a clear path to the final at stake, the knockout phase draw promises to set the tone for an exciting and dramatic conclusion to the UEFA Women’s Champions League season.
