Springbok Women set for historic home test series against USA in July

The Springbok Women are set to make history when they host the USA Women Eagles in a two-Test series on home soil this July, with matches in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The Tests will form part of high-profile double headers, opening the day’s action before the Springboks begin their Nations Championship campaign. The first encounter takes place at Ellis Park on Saturday, 4 July, followed by the second Test at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 11 July.

It will be the first time the two women’s teams meet in South Africa, following their most recent clash in March 2024, which the USA won in London. The announcement comes on the back of another milestone for the Bok Women, who will also face New Zealand’s Black Ferns in a home double header at FNB Stadium in September.

Head coach Swys de Bruin described the USA series as a major boost for the squad as they build towards the next Women’s Rugby World Cup in Australia, highlighting the importance of competing regularly against top-10 nations.

The USA Women Eagles, currently ranked eighth in the world, also welcomed the opportunity, saying the tour would provide invaluable experience against a Springbok side ranked 10th after their historic quarter-final run at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.

SA Rugby also confirmed that the Junior Springbok Women will face their USA U20 counterparts in two matches on 18 and 25 July in the Cape Town region, with the visitors based at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport for the duration of their tour.
