Spar Proteas set to host England in exciting three-test series

The South African netball team, the SPAR Proteas, will open 2026 on a strong note as they prepare to host England in an exciting three-test SPAR Challenge series.

The two nations will meet between 29 January and 1 February 2025 at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena, with the Vitality Roses scheduled to arrive in South Africa two weeks before the first centre pass.

The upcoming series marks England’s first visit to South Africa since 2023, when the sides met in the Quad Series in Cape Town and later clashed again at the Netball World Cup at the same venue. SPAR Proteas Head Coach Jenny van Dyk has faced the Roses twice this year during the 2024 Netball Nations Cup narrowly losing 61–55 in one match before edging a 61–59 victory in the other, proving just how tightly contested this rivalry has become.

“We are thrilled to host the Vitality Roses for a test series on home soil this January. We look forward to welcoming fans to what will be a highly competitive event,” said van Dyk. “The players are working hard, and there are a few athletes we are monitoring who may be brought into the squad. This series is crucial as we begin building towards the Commonwealth Games and beyond.”

Netball South Africa President Mami Diale echoed the excitement, noting that securing the series has been a long-awaited milestone.
“It is always good to play nations ranked above us. This series is important because we want to improve our world ranking and move up the ladder,” she said.
