Lorch, known as Nyoso or “SMS – Shake My Soul”, has reminded fans exactly why the Scorpion Kings once immortalized him in their 2019 hit track Lorch. The lyrics – “Lorch upassa kamnandi, Lorch udlala kamnandi” – have never felt more relevant. His recent performances have revived memories of the exciting, creative player who once lit up the PSL.
In Wydad’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City, Lorch was arguably the most dangerous player on the pitch for the Moroccans. He didn’t score, but his intensity, vision and sharp passing stood out — even against the reigning UEFA Champions League winners. Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson had to be at his best to deny him.

Currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, Lorch is expected to return to Chloorkop after the tournament. But given his recent rise in form – which includes back-to-back Player of the Month awards at Wydad -the Moroccan club is reportedly eager to sign him permanently.
Knocking on Bafana’s Door
Lorch’s resurgence has raised a serious question: Should Hugo Broos give him another chance with Bafana Bafana ahead of AFCON 2025?
The last time Lorch featured for South Africa was during the AFCON 2023 qualifiers. Now, with the next tournament set for December 2025 in Morocco – a region he knows well – the timing might be perfect.
Sure, Lorch has barely been considered by Broos since the Belgian coach took charge. But performances at this level demand attention. After all, every in-form South African player deserves a shot, especially one who’s delivering against top-tier opposition.
Broos is not known for changing his mind easily. It took him nearly a year to finally include Themba Zwane, admitting later that leaving Mshishi out had been a mistake. Similarly, he overlooked Lucas Ribeiro and Gaston Sirino, even though both expressed interest in wearing national colours.
So, for Lorch to get in, someone has to make way. Young stars like Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, and Relebohile Mofokeng are likely locked in. But one player whose position could be in danger is Percy Tau – who is currently without a club. That might open a window for Lorch.
A Return Worth Considering
Whether you’re a fan or not, there’s no denying that Lorch is on fire. He’s playing regular football, showing class, and delivering under pressure. That’s more than can be said for some current Bafana squad members.
As Broos himself said after selecting Themba Zwane:
“A wise man can always change his mind.”
So, is it time for Nyoso to wear national colours again? Is the Lorch redemption arc unfolding right before our eyes?
Only time will tell.
