Nkosinathi Sibisi has been crowned the new captain of the Sea Robbers, stepping up following Innocent Maela’s transition into a new role within the club. Having led the team through most of last season, Sibisi’s appointment feels like destiny fulfilled.
Backing him up are two trusted lieutenants: Thapelo Xoki and rising star Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who has climbed the ranks from the DDC to now vice-captain status. Mbokazi also wore the armband during the team’s recent pre-season tour in Spain – a clear sign that the club sees him as a leader of the future.

Speaking to the club, Sibisi shared his pride:
“It is truly an honour and privilege to be named captain of this great institution. It’s a responsibility that I accept and promise to fulfil to the best of my ability.”
With five competitions on the horizon – MTN8, Carling Knockout, Betway Premiership, CAF Champions League, and Nedbank Cup – the Buccaneers will need every bit of leadership and unity they can get.
The journey begins on August 2 in an MTN8 quarterfinal showdown against Polokwane City. And with Sibisi leading the charge, the Ghost Nation will be hoping this season brings more silverware to Soweto.
