Luis Enrique Reveals Spurs Approach Before PSG Glory

Luis Enrique has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur made an approach for his services before he took over at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spanish coach, famed for guiding Barcelona to a historic treble in 2014-15, was courted by Spurs shortly after stepping down as Spain’s national team boss.

“There were some options in the last six months before I came to Paris, and Tottenham was one of them,” Enrique revealed this week.

Ultimately, he chose to succeed Christophe Galtier at PSG two summers ago – a decision that has paid off in spectacular fashion.

In his debut 2023-24 campaign, Enrique led the Parisians to a domestic treble, sweeping all three French trophies. He went one better the following season, securing France’s first-ever continental treble, including PSG’s maiden UEFA Champions League crown in May 2025.

That triumph now sets the stage for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash, where PSG will meet none other than Tottenham, fresh off their UEFA Europa League success. The match will be played in Italy on 13 August 2025 – pitting Enrique against the club he once turned down.
