Chelsea submit bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens

Chelsea have submitted a formal offer for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking lineup ahead of the upcoming tournament registration deadline on Tuesday.

Sources suggest the 20-year-old is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea pushing to finalize the transfer in the coming days. Notably, both Chelsea and Dortmund are set to participate in the same competition, raising the possibility that Gittens could face his current club in new colours.

Gittens has been on Chelsea’s radar since the January transfer window and remains a top priority among a shortlist of eight to nine attacking prospects being evaluated this summer. The Blues have intensified their search for wide players following their decision not to pursue a permanent deal for former loanee Jadon Sancho.

Valued at approximately 50 million pounds, Gittens saw his involvement at Dortmund diminish toward the end of last season, as he lost his spot in the starting XI due to fierce competition. Despite this, Chelsea view him as a high-upside talent with long-term potential.

Gittens has shown promise at Dortmund—a club known for developing young English players. Unlike predecessors Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, who arrived in Germany as elite youth prospects, Gittens’ journey has been more unconventional. He joined Dortmund at 16 from Manchester City, having previously come through Reading’s academy.

“When we signed him, he was not on Sancho’s level, but we believed we could develop him into a top player,” said Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken. “It was a good collaboration between our scouting, professional, and youth departments.”

Chelsea recently added striker Liam Delap from Manchester City and continue to explore options for another center-forward, with Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko both under consideration.

In other developments, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to leave Chelsea this summer. Arsenal are reportedly advancing in negotiations and are prepared to trigger his 5 million pound release clause.

With the Club World Cup fast approaching, Chelsea are moving quickly in the transfer market. Whether Gittens completes his move in time remains uncertain—but the club’s intent is clear: to refresh their attack with youth, speed, and long-term promise.
