Barcelona president Joan Laporta has adopted a more measured tone ahead of the summer transfer window, hinting at a shift in the club’s transfer strategy.

In the past, Barcelona had set their sights high, including an ambitious – but ultimately unrealized – attempt to sign Erling Haaland before bringing in Robert Lewandowski. Now, however, Laporta suggests that similar big-money moves are unlikely this summer, even as names like Nico Williams continue to be linked with the club.
“Almost nothing is impossible in life, but I don’t think it’s something we’re considering right now,” Laporta said in a recent interview with TV3, when asked about Haaland. “He’s also just renewed with Manchester City.”
Regarding Williams, Laporta added: “Nico was a candidate last season, but we opted for Dani Olmo instead. Other options are now under review.”

Sporting Director Deco has acknowledged the need to strengthen the squad, particularly with a new wide forward, though no major targets have been confirmed. While Lewandowski has remained effective, ongoing concerns about his age underline the need for a long-term successor.

In a surprising development, Barcelona have offered a two-year contract extension to veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who recently returned from retirement. Szczesny played a key role in a season that saw Barça claim three trophies, and his performances have seemingly convinced the board of his value moving forward.

Laporta has since downplayed the likelihood of signing a marquee goalkeeper, hinting that Szczesny’s experience may be enough to anchor the position for the near future.
