The closely contested final saw Uganda hold their nerve in the closing stages to reclaim the continental crown, ending South Africa’s reign as defending champions.
Both teams entered the final unbeaten, setting up a highly anticipated clash between two of Africa’s leading netball nations. Uganda took a narrow 15–13 lead after the opening quarter and maintained their advantage at half-time, leading 31–27.
The She Cranes continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, extending their lead to 44–37 heading into the final 15 minutes. The SPAR Proteas produced a determined late fightback, closing the gap in the final quarter, but Uganda held on to secure a three-goal victory.
For South Africa, the result brings an end to their campaign with a silver medal after they had successfully defended the Africa Netball Cup title in 2025. They reached the final after defeating Malawi in the semi-final.
Uganda’s triumph marks their return to the top of African netball, with the She Cranes completing an unbeaten campaign throughout the tournament. The victory also confirms Uganda’s place at the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, alongside South Africa, Malawi and Namibia.
While the SPAR Proteas will be disappointed to miss out on another continental title, their run to the final underlines their continued presence among Africa’s leading netball teams as they look ahead to the 2027 Netball World Cup.
