SPAR Proteas name 15-Player squad for England Test Series

The SPAR Proteas have confirmed a 15-player squad to face the Vitality Roses in a three-match Test series in Johannesburg later this month.

Head coach Jenny van Dyk finalised the squad following a two-day national training camp held in Johannesburg, where invited players were assessed as part of South Africa’s long-term planning toward major international competitions.

Van Dyk said the selected group reflects both current form and the need to build depth within the national setup.

“We are building a team that can compete at the World Cup, so selection is never just about the next series,” said van Dyk. “Every player who was invited brought intensity and quality, which made selection difficult. That is a positive challenge, and I believe we have chosen the right 15 players for this moment.”

The coach added that the series against England would provide an important opportunity for the selected players to test themselves against one of the strongest teams in world netball.

“Playing against the best helps us measure where we are as a group and identify areas we need to improve,” she said. “This is also our final international outing before the Commonwealth Games, so it is a key moment for this squad.”

The SPAR Proteas head into the SPAR Challenge Netball Series on the back of a successful Africa Netball Cup campaign in Lilongwe, where they were crowned African champions.

Netball South Africa president Mami Diale backed the selected squad, highlighting the importance of exposure at the highest level.

“The selected players have earned their places, and we are confident they will rise to the challenge,” said Diale. “Competing against world-class opposition at home is vital for their development and for the growth of the team.”

The SPAR Challenge Netball Series will be played at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena on 29 January, 31 January and 1 February 2026, with matches broadcast live on SuperSport.
