Ekurhuleni to host record-breaking SPAR National Netball Championships

Netball South Africa has announced the dates for the Spar National Netball Championships with a new location this year.

The  competition will take place at at Dr EG Jansen High School in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, from 1 to 5 December 2025, marking a new location for the country’s biggest netball event.

This year’s edition marks the biggest entry in the tournament’s history, with over 2,200 players and nearly 200 officials participating. The senior and Under-21 tournaments will run concurrently, featuring 119 districts – with Johannesburg defending both titles.

Several members of the SPAR Baby Proteas, fresh from the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar, are set to compete, while the SPAR Proteas will miss the event as they prepare for the African Netball Cup in Malawi.

Newly elected Netball South Africa (NSA) President Mami Diale highlighted the championship’s importance as a talent incubator:

“SPAR National Champs is our biggest talent identification platform. Many of our top players have been discovered here, and with SPAR’s continued support, we can keep creating these opportunities.”

Ekurhuleni Netball Association chair Motlalepule Mmatli said hosting the event was a proud milestone:

“This championship reflects our district’s growth and passion for netball. We hope it inspires more players to join and grow Ekurhuleni’s netball legacy.”

The tournament will also include a Deaf Netball Tournament (1–5 December) in celebration of World Disability Day.
