Kaizer Chiefs’ goal-scoring struggles continue after AmaZulu draw

Kaizer Chiefs’ troubles in front of goal continued on Wednesday night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu FC at the FNB Stadium.

The result stretched their winless run in the Betway Premiership to three matches, a run that has left fans frustrated.

Amakhosi had enough chances to win the game comfortably but once again failed to make them count. Glody Lilepo saw his penalty saved by Usuthu goalkeeper Darren Johnson, while Pule Mmodi’s strike – which was already heading into the net was controversially touched in by Khanyisa Mayo from an offside position, costing Chiefs a certain goal.

Interim coach Khalil Ben Youssef applauded his players for showing fight but admitted that poor finishing remains a serious issue.

“We dominate games and create opportunities, including penalties, but we don’t take them. Today we missed again, and even when we were about to score, it was ruled offside,” he said.

This was the second match in a row that Chiefs failed from the spot, after Gaston Sirino’s penalty miss against Marumo Gallants in another 1-1 draw.

Despite the setback, Ben Youssef praised the team’s resilience:

“The players showed strong character and a good mindset. It’s not easy to miss chances and still push until the end. We just need to correct mistakes in the final third.”

After eight games, Chiefs sit fifth on the table with 15 points – six behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played two matches more.
