Luis Diaz Asks for Financial Guarantees Before Joining Barcelona

Barcelona’s pursuit of Luis Diaz has hit another snag, with the Colombian winger now demanding financial guarantees should he not be registered by the club before the transfer window slams shut on August 31.

After the collapse of the Nico Williams deal, Barça reignited their interest in Diaz – a long-time target of sporting director Deco. Talks with Diaz’s representatives are ongoing, and a draft contract is reportedly already in the works, pending Liverpool’s approval of the transfer.

The 27-year-old forward is eager to leave the Premier League, which he now considers a “closed chapter,” and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to don the Blaugrana shirt at Camp Nou.

However, Diaz’s camp has introduced a new demand: a compensation clause. If Barcelona sign him but fail to register him in time due to La Liga’s stringent financial fair play regulations, the club would be required to pay him a significant sum as compensation for the sporting setback – whether that means sitting out until January or missing the entire season.

This condition adds further complexity to an already delicate deal. Beyond registration and financial hurdles, Barcelona now face growing competition from other clubs.

Bayern Munich have stepped up their interest in Diaz following an injury to Jamal Musiala, leaving a void in their attack. Reports out of Germany suggest the Bundesliga champions are in a strong position to secure the Colombian’s signature.

Meanwhile, clubs from the Saudi Pro League remain a looming threat, reportedly preparing late big-money bids that Barcelona would be unable to match financially.

As the August 31 deadline draws closer, time is running out – and the battle for Diaz is far from over.
