Rulani Mokwena bids farewell to Wydad Casablanca with pride

Rulani Mokwena has confirmed he will part ways with Wydad Casablanca at the end of the season, bringing his challenging stint at the Moroccan giants to a close.

Despite the tough journey, Mokwena says he will leave the club with his head held high and nothing but respect for both Wydad and the people of Morocco.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach joined Wydad just last season, but his time at the Botola Pro 1 side will end after only a year in charge. Under his leadership, Wydad currently sits third on the league table, one point behind second-placed AS FAR, but a significant 16 points adrift of league leaders RSB Berkane.

Although the team has shown improvement from last season’s sixth-place finish, the results haven’t fully met the expectations of the club’s management, ultimately leading to the decision not to extend Mokwena’s stay.

Speaking to FARPost, Mokwena reflected on his tenure:
“My situation with the club is difficult because of the results, and it has to be difficult — that’s the reality at a big club. I’ve always taken risks to win games, and if that’s not enough, I accept it. I’ve said before, I’ll finish the season and leave Wydad through the front door, with dignity and respect.”

He concluded by expressing his appreciation:
“I leave Wydad with great respect for the people of Morocco and for the club itself. I’m a coach who believes in taking risks, because I always want to win.”
